Another wonderful and meaninful contemporary dance piece by Ilsa Tari, choreographed by Osman Hamid Era Dance Theatre LTD. Kudos to our chairman, Nadiah, as she was also part of the performance. Also the highlights on that night are performances by NUS Dance Blast, NUS Dance Ensemble, NUS Indian Dance, NUS Chinese Dance and NUS Dance Synergy.
AZPIRASI would like to wish all muslims out there a happiest and glorious HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI. Especially to Azmi Juhari's family, Azpirasi members, friends and followers of us. Forgive us for our wrongdoings and mistakes that have occured during trainings and performance or we may have disappoint people in any way. Maaf Zahir dan Batin. And Thank you so much for those who have been supporting n believing in us. Azpirasi will work hard for the better. Have a good one this year. =)

Those who watched the show will agree with me. A Rock infuse concert with a touch of malay traditional arts. Featuring Art Fazil and Addy Cradle that everyone came to see them conquer the stage and they didn't disappoint. Some of the best highlights would be Addy Cradle playing traditional Mak Inang Pulau Kampai on his electric guitar and Both Wans percussion battling with each other. Congrats to Gendrum Network for their successful first production and don't stop playing great music!
Here are some photos taken by one of Azpirasi follower. Thank you Rush!

Many people are tired of the same boring workouts they force themselves to do in order to lose weight. Walking on the treadmill, lifting weights, and participating in an aerobics class are just a few of the ways people exercise in order to gain a healthier life. Those who are looking for a more exciting alternative may want to consider dancing since the benefits of dancing can help a person achieve a strong, slender body.
Dancing is an effective form of exercise that some people choose to do in order to take the place of other types of workouts. The benefits of dancing cause many people to be in favour of this more entertaining form of exercise. A half hour of dancing can burn between 200 to 400 calories. As a result, dancing enables people to get the benefits of exercise while avoiding boring, repetitious movements.
Benefits
When done on a regular basis, it improves strength, increases flexibility, and reduces stress. Dancing helps to lose weight and develop self-confidence. Energetic dancing makes exercisers use muscles they may not know existed. It can even help people lower their blood pressure and improve their cholesterol level.
Another benefit of dancing includes an improved cardiovascular system. Dancing prevents and treats osteoporosis, improves balance, and raises endorphin levels. Raised endorphin levels help people who battle depression or those who experience high stress levels.
Dancing helps people stand taller, improving their posture so that they appear to be more slender. Traditional forms of exercise can often make people look bulky. In contrast, if a person studies a form of dance like ballet, it can help them develop the long, lean look of a ballet dancer. When a person participates in a dance class, she automatically forgets about problems at home or in the workplace. Remembering steps and concentrating on how to perform a specific movement keeps the dancer's mind occupied on what is occurring within the dance studio.
People who take up dancing as a form of exercise often benefit from increased social interaction. Whether a person decides to learn ballroom, ballet, square dancing, or any other kind of dance, it often requires interaction with other dancers. Attending a dance class allows people to meet new people, thereby increasing contact with those who come from different backgrounds. This is one of the benefits of dancing that anyone can enjoy.
Instead of purchasing expensive memberships to a gym, consider enrolling in a dance class. Dance classes are relatively inexpensive, provide the same benefits of traditional exercises, and allow people to learn something new as they pursue a healthier body. The benefits of dancing are varied, including weight loss, an improved body shape, lower blood pressure, healthy cholesterol levels, reduced stress, and stronger bones. People who wish to take dance classes should investigate schools in their local area in order to find the right class for their needs.
Dance away, start today!

Karya Returns Once More...
The much awaited annual production Karya is here once more!
Unlike the previous year, Karya 2009: Bakau Yang Sepi this May is a performance solely produced and performed by the Azpirasi 'family'. It also marks Azpirasi Dance Group’s 2nd year in performing ‘solo’ (dance) for this Yew Tee CC MAEC organized event. Nevertheless, there will be a special appearance by talented artist Abu Jalal Sarimun from the distiguished Tuju Art Group. In addition, Azpirasi will be accompanied with original live music by 3-year old local music group- Orkes Mutiara guided by professional musician, Dzul Rabull Jalil and fellow violinist Ismahairie Putra.
What is it about Karya?
What sets Karya aside is that this event is not always about the dance but really about the development (personal & collective) of Azpirasi Dance Group. Over the years, Karya has been a platform for aspiring talents whose potential are stretched hence providing time, space and outlet to pursue their goals.
Comprising of members with diverse backgrounds, Azpirasi Dance Group dancers contribute to the success of Karya year after year. Karya is a collective effort by Azpirasians (as members are called). From manpower, technical hands to costumes creation, Azpirasi Dance Group do not lack the creative pool of talent.
A Yardstick
Last year’s success has seen the same few young choreographers (Md Rizal, Md Amin) develop into successful ‘teachers’ in their respective academic institutes for this year’s Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging (SYF) for Malay Dance, achieving Silver and Gold awards.
A winner himself, choreographer Azmi Juhari, who clinched 6 Gold awards this year for all his 6 schools, says that there is always a need to have ‘meaning’ in his dances. There is always a story behind every movement and how he got about the steps.
Bakau Yang Sepi
As the theme for Karya 2009, Bakau Yang Sepi will send home a message to audiences that we must not forget the past. Changes are good and constant however gravity never forgets to pull us back to the ground whenever we get too high. Striving for better is a must but we need to address the problems on Earth before we reach for the moon. According to Azmi Juhari, he is disheartened seeing how Westernization has trivialized the moral and social conduct of the conservative Malay society today. It is with high hopes that he brings forth these issues through his choreography.
Catch Karya 2009: Bakau Yang Sepi at Yew Tee CC this May!
Tickets are selling at $5 at Yew Tee CC main office. For more information, visit Events page.

GENTARASA 2009 as part of Asian Showcase in this year's Singapore Arts Festival...
"A staple on the Festival outreach calendar is the Asian Showcase. Gentarasa 2009: Bapak Borek Anak Cerdik! focuses on a time travel journey by four teenage boys into the past to discover and appreciate Malay Culture. A fast-paced light hearted comedy drama science fiction, Gentarasa 2009 combines pre-recorded visual acts with live on-stage acting. SEIS Dance presents the Saman Traditional Dance, also known as the "Dance of a Thousand Hands," Aceh’s most popular traditional dance. The Pasar Theatre in Chinatown provides a throw back to the fifties with a programme of cross talk, evergreens, Chinese opera and the traditional arts.
In addition, the outreach programme features associated events with the Esplanade and the Singapore Street Festival; and CLAP! (Community Life Arts Programme) organised by the Central Singapore Community Development Council.
The Singapore Arts Festival 2009, organised by NAC, will feature seven new commissions, which include two world premieres and one Asian premiere co-commissioned with international partners, and five other Asian premieres. The Festival will see a broad and inclusive programme ranging from premier classics to contemporary creations, while it continues its strategic role as a global connector in the international festival circuit, and a national platform for the people to engage in the arts."

Hi All!
It's about time the "old" Azpirasi website (By Blogger) had a revamp hence this site is built for your viewing pleasure! Expect updates on Azpirasi's activity and feel free to talk! Well things are a bit different over here so we don't "tag". However, there is a page under "have your say" which doubles up as a tag page. It is actually a guestbook but no worries, it works all the same! And just like any events (think weddings), we expect you to sign our guestbook before you leave! You are welcomed to open topics, bring up queries or simply leave any comments and (preferably) well-wishes for Azpirasians! Don't worry about the big names, - it is as simple as it can get! Also, do check out our "calendar" page once in a while for Azpirasi's upcoming performances! With that in mind, we hope you have a pleasant read while browsing through this site :)
